The Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program was founded in 1994 by Dar and Dale Emme.
Since that time, more than
2,500 lives have been saved,
5 million Yellow Ribbon Cards have been distributed,
and more than 42,000 letters received asking for help & telling of lives saved.

Yellow Ribbon is a community-based program using a universal public health approach.
This program empowers and educates professionals, adults and youth.

The Yellow Ribbon Program is two-fold: We want to get cards to youth and to inform adults what the cards are. This is very important so that adults can respond appropriately and immediately if they receive a card from a teen or youth. To learn how to start a Yellow Ribbon program in your area so youth will be able to get cards locally, go to www.yellowribbon.org. OR you can contact the AAOA office directly at 312-202-8192 and have a beginning supply of Yellow Ribbon cards sent to you. Teens that have attempted suicide tell that they were so overwhelmed at the time of their crisis that they did not know what to say to ask for help! These cards are a 'voice' for youth when they can't find the words to say "I need help". The Advocates for the American Osteopathic Association are dedicated to supporting this valuable program. We placed ads in Teen People magazine and continue to provide Yellow Ribbon cards to thousands through “Trend Spotters” in association with these ads. The Yellow Ribbon cards can also be customized to include local crisis information. This allows youth to find help in their own home area.
